The Arboreal Retribution is my allegory for the impacts of man made climate change. In the foreground is a castle, its gargantuan chimney spewing smoke into the skies over the forest and mountains. Three prominent figures are positioned in the landscape. Nearest to the castle, this strange, tentacled entity represents the new species which will evolve in the poisoned, radioactive environment. Furthest from the castle, a chimpanzee sits trapped in his tower, symbolizing the species of today which will become extinct. In the centre, the golden heart of mother nature, despite the poisoning of her body and dying of her species, remains pure. In time, balance will be restored to the earth. Whether or not we are part of that balance, however, will be determined by our actions going forward. What we can know, is that our actions until now have surely left a black mark in the ecological history of our world.
